- Make a commitment to investor relations. If you are going to use the public’s money, commit yourself to engaging them in earnest.
- Graham and Dodd were only partially right. Yes the market will always find value, but you’ve got to help out because it may not find it quick enough to satisfy your existing shareholders or help you make acquisitions.
- Pucker up. You’re going to have to kiss a lot of frogs before you find a prince.
- Embrace diversity. There’s going to be divergent views on your company from investors and analysts alike. Remember, this is the cornerstone of liquidity.
- Hug your short sellers. Don’t hunker down. Tell them why they are wrong.
- Ban Paranoia from the C Suite. There’s no conspiracy against your company. It’s only investors trying to make money, just like you.
- Celebrate transparency. Expensive yes, but in the end, the only way.
- Avail Yourself to Analyst Sponsored Non Deal Road Shows. In most firms, they’re what pays for the research when there is no banking transaction on the horizon.
- Engage the Media. Headlines mean liquidity.
- Love your analysts. Even when you don’t like them . . . . Remember, aside from your own voice they are one of your best megaphones.
