Intermap

Industry Sector: Digital Mapping
Background
Intermap Technologies Inc., a Canadian based company with headquarters in Denver was referred into Genesis Select in 2004. At that time the Company had developed a proprietary and revolutionary new process to re-map entire continents in geospatially correct 3 dimensions with 1 meter accuracy or better. The Company had refined the technology and was undertaking a massive build out of its database, a 3-4 year process which would require long term patient investors. The Company was intent on amassing data for the entire USA and Western Europe as they identified and targeted large market opportunities still undefined. Intermap’s goal was to depart from the traditional fee for service model, and to build a more stable and ultimately lucrative recurring revenue model.
The Genesis Approach
Genesis Select was hired to identify and target US based institutional buyers comfortable with holding a Toronto Exchange traded security, and also to target sell side analysts familiar with the mapping and location based technology services. (LBS). Initially Genesis started by assisting in the placement of a significant block of Intermap’s stock held by a Canadian institutional seller, and then via a Genesis related company placed $10M in a PIPE transaction with US long term holders.
The Genesis Effect
Over the course of the next 7 years Genesis Select helped increase the US ownership from less than 5% to over 30% with some of the biggest US institutional investors participating. Genesis Select also aided in increasing the current research coverage to 4 US based analysts while also assisting the Company as it explores NASDAQ listing options. Intermap remains a Genesis Select customer entering their fourth year of engagement.
